Samuel Parker was Henry Parker's father. When Henry was 12, Samuel
vounteered to go on a mission trip to the west--the area that later
became Oregon and Washington. He left his family at home.
Samuel went on a three year journey, ending by sailing to the Sandwich
Islands (now called Hawaii), then around South America and back to New
York. He wrote a book called Journal of
an Exploring Tour Beyond the Rocky Mountains, and it became a
best-seller. |
